Details: The title of Daniel Creusot's historical documentary La Famille (AKA The Family, 2007) bears more than a hint of irony; it refers not to a domestic family but to the infamous Cuntrera-Caruana Sicilian-Canadian crime family, a money-laundering and drug-pushing syndicate that instilled terror into the hearts of Canadian authorities for decades. Though the organization took root in the early '50s, it grew more dominant and pervasive over the course of thirty years thanks to a slick ability to skirt through the Canadian judicial system and evade detection and incarceration.
