Details: Amazon.ca Dvorák's Mass in D is a pretty, relaxed little piece, originally composed for choir and organ and later orchestrated. The Te Deum, by contrast, is a vivacious masterpiece from his American period. Unfortunately, neither work is all that well performed or recorded here. The Russian performers bring a wholly inappropriate heaviness to music which ought to sound fresh and light. There are finer performances of both works on London and Supraphon, so this is no real loss. --David Hurwitz
