While the band would eventually absorb an array of influences--from country and folk to soul and pop--The Sound of Truth portrays 54-40 as moody, post-punk rockers. This compilation CD collects 54-40's earliest independent releases, 1982's Selection EP and 1984's Set the Fire album. It's easy to hear the impact of some of the era's coolest bands--Echo and the Bunnymen's Will Sargeant in Phil Comparelli's lean guitar leads and Joy Division's Ian Curtis in Osborne's brooding vocals. Yet 54-40 were also rapidly developing a personality of their own, and the nervy "Yank" and the stirring title track rate among the group's best work. --Jason Anderson

UPC: 074648027927

EAN: 0074648027927

Binding: Audio CD

Item Condition: UsedVeryGood
