But the end results are surprisingly timeless, bringing to mind '20s musicals, '50s Jazz, '60s girl groups and shambling '80s Indie. Perhaps the best point of comparison, though, is Belle And Sebastian's own Dear Catastrophe Waitress, a 2003 album bolstered by Trevor Horn production that upped the band's Pop potential with the addition of brass, strings and other orchestral flourishes. It was not popular with all of the band's audience, many of whom were put off by its overt slickness.
