Les producteurs le remplacent par Smoochy, homme-rhinocéros en peluche rose dont la sincérité n’a d’égale que les bonnes intentions. Mais pourra-t-il survivre dans ce milieu où règnent les imprésarios véreux, les producteurs jaloux et la mafia irlandaise ? \n Pour nous faire découvrir les dessous sombres de cet univers enfantin, a priori inoffensif, Danny DeVito trempe sa plume dans le cynisme et se régale visiblement autant que nous de toute cette férocité. En dépassant consciencieusement et systématiquement les limites, il livre une réalisation tout à fait rafraîchissante. Avec Robin Williams, dans un contre-emploi délectable, en star déchue et vengeresse au langage fleuri, et Edward Norton, parfait en faux naïf, Death to Smoochy est une comédie incisive, parfois franchement méchante mais, surtout, totalement jubilatoire. Et même si la fin gentillette semble un peu paresseuse et bien-pensante, elle ne réussit pas à gâcher ce concentré de “politiquement incorrect”.
