Recorded in Washington, Face au silence du monde features a dozen songs that stand out as much for their very effective choruses as for their thoughtful, even philosophical lyrics (the title track is inspired by Albert Camus' Myth of Sisyphus). Smalley managed to capture in the studio the energy that characterizes Pénélope's live performances and succeeded in highlighting the group's pieces with discreet but relevant arrangements. Only a few vocal weaknesses, especially in the more melodic pieces – where the lyrics would benefit from being sung rather than chanted – tarnish the picture a little.
